Reviewed by Health Coach Beth Kaczmar of Forum Health Akron

Chai is very healing for the gut because it contains many healing herbs including cinnamon, which helps regulate blood sugar levels, cloves which help lower levels of pathogenic bacteria in the gut, and star anise which helps treat digestive ailments like bloating and indigestion. Many are unaware that it is possible to create a chai tea latte that is free of caffeine and dairy products. Enjoy this vegan chai tea latte in honor of World Vegan Day, and throughout the cooler months!

Vegan Chai Tea Latte

Serves 2

Ingredients

  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 4 caffeine-free black tea bags
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise

  • ½ tsp whole cloves
  • Sprinkle of black pepper
  • 1 tsp maple syrup or Lakanto monkfruit sweetener (keto version)
  • 2 ½ cups unsweetened almond or coconut milk*

Method

Combine the water, tea bags, and spices over medium heat in a saucepan, then bring to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes, remove from heat and stir in sweetener.
