Bioidentical Hormone Replacement in Women

bioidentical-hormone-replacement-therapy

By Dr. Connie Casebolt MD of Forum Health, Greenville

Ladies, we all face dealing with hormonal imbalances, particularly during perimenopause and menopause. It is a normal part of life. Conventional synthetic hormone replacement treatment is often used to help women balance their hormones and improve their quality of life, but there is a better way! Bioidentical hormone replacement uses hormones that are chemically the same as those naturally produced in the body. Research shows hormones that mimic what is naturally found in your body are safer and more effective at treating hormonal imbalances than standard synthetic hormones. In fact, these structural replicas of the body’s natural hormones relieve frustrating symptoms without dangerous side effects that occur with conventional hormone therapy.

For example, two of the most common and most frustrating symptoms of hormone imbalance are hot flashes and night sweats. Usually, hot flashes and night sweats are caused by an estrogen deficiency. They can be uncomfortable and annoying, and can also lead to sleep disturbances. Conventional synthetic hormones may be recognized in the body as toxins, but bioidentical hormone replacement can greatly decrease the frequency and intensity of hot flashes and night sweats.

Fatigued? Having a hard time sleeping? Balancing hormones through bioidentical hormone replacement may be the answer. Research has shown that bringing natural hormones to the proper balance will increase energy levels and improve sleep patterns.

Sometimes hormone levels change suddenly. Fast changes can affect the production of serotonin and dopamine, two key brain chemicals. Balancing hormones naturally and keeping them balanced can help improve mood and relieve depression.

While many women are hesitant to discuss vaginal dryness and low libido, both are commonly associated with hormonal imbalance. These challenging symptoms may result in less sex and can cause tension in a relationship. Low libido can be caused by a declining level of testosterone. Many think of testosterone as a male hormone, but women also produce testosterone and low levels can cause a low sex drive. Poor estrogen levels impact vaginal tissue moisture and comfort. Bioidentical hormone replacement is the solution to maintaining an active, healthy sex life.

Say goodbye to those frustrating and sleep disturbing hot flashes and night sweats. Help improve fatigue, combat mood swings and depression, and even raise that low libido.
