Traumatic head injuries (TBI) are often called “invisible” — and for good reason. Many head injuries don’t show up on imaging, such as an MRI or CT scan, and yet patient suffering can be debilitating and long-lasting. Several complications can occur immediately or soon after a TBI, while severe injuries increase the risk of a greater number of complications and more-severe complications. Even “minor” brain trauma can affect the cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral aspects of the mind.
