Stages of Menopause: What Stage Are You In?

There are three stages of menopause, Perimenopause, Menopause, and Post Menopause. The average age of menopause is around 51, although it can vary between individuals. The process leading up to menopause is called perimenopause, which can last several years and is characterized by hormonal fluctuations and changes in the menstrual cycle.  Each stage requires unique care, which is why it is important to know which stage you are in.  Hormone testing done as part of our program will determine what stage you are in.

Perimenopause

This is the transitional stage leading up to menopause. It usually begins several years before menopause itself. During this phase, a woman’s hormone levels, particularly estrogen and progesterone, start to fluctuate. As a result, menstrual cycles may become irregular, with changes in the frequency and duration of periods. Women may experience symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, vaginal dryness, sleep disturbances, and changes in libido.

Menopause

Menopause is defined as the point when a woman has not had a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months. It signifies the end of the reproductive years and the decline of estrogen production in the ovaries.  Symptoms experienced during perimenopause may continue into menopause, and women may also notice additional changes like thinning hair, dry skin, and changes in body composition.

Post Menopause

Post menopause refers to the stage following menopause where symptoms start to diminish. Some women may continue to experience certain symptoms, such as hot flashes, for several years after menopause. Postmenopausal women are also at an increased risk of certain health conditions, including osteoporosis and heart disease, due to the declining levels of estrogen. It is important for women to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, a balanced diet, and estrogen replacement therapy.

What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

BHRT can relieve symptoms of hormone imbalance, prevent memory loss, improve cardiovascular health, and bone production, growth and repair and is one of the important components of menopause treatment.

As you age, your body makes less of certain hormones that are key to quality of life. Testosterone and estrogen imbalances cause issues like hot flashes, night sweats, low sex drive, sleeplessness, and mood changes.

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) augments natural hormone production, restoring it to normal levels.

At Forum Health, we use only bioidentical hormones, which are identical to the body’s natural chemistry. You’ll experience many positive changes: improved mood, memory, and ability to deal with stress; more energy; heightened sex drive; deep and restorative sleep. Live your life with zest, energy, and happiness.

Our primary goal is to give our patients as much life, energy, vitality, and drive into their lives as possible!

This place is wonderful! I've been on bioidentical therapy for about 20 years now and when I moved here about 5 years ago I started looking for a doctor specializing in this area. After a couple of tries I finally found Forum Health and I'm so glad I stuck with it. I would pay whatever it takes to feel great again and I do now! I am not bothered by menopause at all. I have more energy, less mood swings, weight management, better skin, lower cholesterol, less headaches and fatigue, and most importantly an increase in libido. I'm happy, my husband is happy, so it's well worth the money! And they have options available for everyone and every budget if you just ask. Can't recommend this place enough.
