Heather Bland completed her master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Western University of Health Sciences in 2009. In her early career, she worked in Urgent Care & Occupational Medicine in Southern California treating a wide variety of acute issues and injuries in the adult population.
After a few years, Heather began to question why some patients had unresolved injuries or pain and suspected there had to be other underlying health issues not being addressed with conventional medicine. Upon moving back to the Midwest, Heather’s personal health challenges motivated her to look into a more holistic approach to healing.
Heather found that Functional Medicine focused on how all the intricate body systems work together and are intimately tied to our environment, all with a foundation of research-based medicine. With this new knowledge and training through the Institute for Functional Medicine, she was finally able to find the root cause of her patients’ dis-ease and help them return to healing and balance. Heather is passionate about being a partner in her patients’ health journey, cultivating their strengths to make the appropriate lifestyle shifts, and finding the true root issues affecting their health.
Heather believes we live our best lives when we are balanced physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Personally, her favorite things to support balance are quality time with her inquisitive and optimistic daughter, cooking healthy and delicious recipes, reading, staying active at church, yoga, running, and sharing laughs and nourishing food with friends and family.
