Unexpected: The ONE Book You Need to Read Right Now

Our new favorite book! Dr. Jill Carnahan shares her personal story of facing breast cancer, living with autoimmunity and mold toxicity, and the need for a different kind of healing.

We are so excited to share this book, Unexpected: Finding Resilience through Functional Medicine, Science, and Faith written by our colleague and inspiration of a patient, Dr. Jill Carnahan.

If you’ve suffered from any kind of illness, you know the toll it takes on your physical, mental and emotional well-being. It’s frustrating and you often end up feeling alone, afraid and without hope. That’s where Dr. Jill was.

Dr. Jill Carnahan, MD, ABIHM, IFMCP known as Your Functional Medicine Expert® and medical director of Flatiron Functional Medicine in Boulder, CO, suffered from life-threatening illnesses and was determined to find a better way to heal using functional medicine. Her story is about discovery and transformational healing, and she’s sharing it in her new book to encourage your own healing journey.

“I wanted to be the doctor who took on the most challenging cases without fear, who would find solutions where others said there were none, who would give love and hope as a gift to each patient who walked in the door.”

Dr. Jill Carnahan shares her impactful story of healing herself with functional medicine, and demonstrates the power of functional medicine in overcoming some of the most severe health conditions.

This is a great read that tells a patient and doctor’s real story. She is a survivor of breast cancer and Crohn’s disease, and lived with autoimmunity and mold toxicity. Like many of our own Forum Health providers have experienced, Dr. Jill was drawn deeper into functional medicine when it came time to heal herself and explore outside the lines of traditional medicine.

We especially love that Dr. Jill gets honest about forging a path using the advances of science and functional medicine to take back control of her health and aims to empower her readers to do the same.

She also offers practical advice for some of the most common concerns she sees affecting people today, including mold and biotoxin illness, cancer, autoimmune disease, Lyme disease and more.

Four Reasons Why We’re Loving Unexpected by Dr. Jill!

  • She shares how to let go of fear and uncertainty and discover a new way of facing challenges with resilience, healing and unconditional love.
  • She’s like us, a doctor, patient, woman, and a friend who has been where you are and is inspiring us to reach the highest level of healing – mind, body, and soul
  • We love information! She shares her cutting-edge protocols for mold and environmental toxicity, cancer, autoimmune disease, Lyme disease and co-infections and more!
  • Who doesn’t want to experience miracles?! Dr. Jill shares how you can overcome toxicity in all areas of your life and experience the best outcomes all around you.

Dr. Jill not only shares her science-backed protocols in Unexpected, she shares her functional medicine perspective and acknowledges the innate wisdom in the body’s ability to heal and overcome difficulties. And we couldn’t agree more!

"Our bodies are born with the innate intelligence and design to heal. Anyone who has ever cut themselves has seen the incredible transformation of the skin as it changes over a matter of few days from an angry, broken wound to pristine skin. We each possess an intrinsic intelligence that can transform suffering into triumph, weakness into strength, and trauma into empowerment. This unconscious wisdom is knowing what needs to change and trusting in our body’s natural ability to carry it out.*"
